#19 i luv…chess squares

I luv chess squares. I mean I really luv these Southern-style sweets. I literally can eat half the pan by myself quicker than you can say trick-or-treat. I thought I’d put this yummy recipe up today to satisfy your Halloween sweet tooth. The recipe is pretty easy-peezy. All you need is butter cake mix, confectioners’ sugar, cream cheese, butter, and eggs. BTW…if you are having a southern inspired wedding, serving chess squares along with mini pecan and sweet potato piesĀ  and grandma’s pound cake…..mmmmm….is a great idea. Be inspired.

Cook Time: 40 min.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package butter cake mix
  • 1 stick butter, (4 oz), softened
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 box confectioners’ sugar, (1 lb)
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

Preparation:

Combine cake mix, butter and egg and pat into 9×13″ pan. Mix sugar, eggs and cream cheese, and pour on the crust mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes, or until browned.

#14 i luv…a milk and cookies bar

23 10 2009

I luv a milk and cookies bar. I first read about this on InStyleWeddings.com (BTW…thanks fellow AAW knottie for confirming my excitement about this idea) as a cool reception idea for foodies that like to party all night long.

So…how can you pull this off for your reception in an elegant style (instead of looking elementary)?

(1) Make sure the presentation is on point. Use ornate cake plates or chandelier inspired cake plates (or cupcake stands) to put the cookies on.

(2) Use square dessert plates (or even rectangular sushi plates) and small drinking glasses for the milk to pull off a more contemporary look.

(3) Make sure the cookies are kept warm and the milk cold.

(4) Make a cute lil cookie recipe favor as a keepsake for guests.

I wish there was a way that you could click on the picture below and your cookies and milk would pop out of the screen. But until technology catches up with my imagination, be inspired by the pix below.
